Modi Unveils New Slogan for Bengal
PM calls for BJP government, targets TMC ahead of Assembly polls
January 17, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday rolled out a new political slogan for West Bengal ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, declaring, “Paltano darkar, chayee BJP sarkar,” signalling a clear call for a change in government. Addressing a rally in Malda after flagging off Vande Bharat sleeper trains, Modi said that after the NDA’s victory in Bihar, it was now “time for Bengal,” positioning the state as the BJP’s next major electoral focus.
Launching a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress, Modi accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of corruption and of blocking central welfare schemes. He alleged that benefits under programmes such as Ayushman Bharat were being denied to eligible residents, claiming the TMC government was preventing central assistance from reaching the people of Bengal. The Prime Minister said such governance failures had increased public anger and strengthened calls for change.
Referring to recent electoral gains across the country, Modi cited the BJP’s historic victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections and the party’s first mayoral win in Thiruvananthapuram as signs of expanding support. He said these results reflected growing trust, particularly among young voters, in the BJP’s development model, and expressed confidence that the people of West Bengal would ensure a decisive victory for the party in the forthcoming polls.
