June 12, 2025: The southwest monsoon, which had stalled since May 29, is anticipated to resume its northward movement between June 12 and 18, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This development brings hope for relief from the ongoing heatwave affecting northern India.

Regional Forecasts:

  • Mumbai and Maharashtra: The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad from June 12 to June 15, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Raigad is under an orange alert for June 13 to 15, indicating extremely heavy rain with potential lightning and gusty winds .

  • Gujarat: The monsoon is likely to reach South Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, by June 14, with thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall expected across various districts .

  • Delhi and Northern India: The IMD has indicated that the southwest monsoon will likely reach Delhi by June 30, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave .

Impact on Agriculture and Energy:

The delayed monsoon has led to concerns over water availability for agriculture and increased energy demand due to the prolonged heatwave. However, the anticipated revival of the monsoon is expected to alleviate these issues by providing necessary rainfall for crops and reducing the strain on energy resources.

Conclusion:

While the delayed monsoon has posed challenges, the expected revival in the coming days offers hope for improved weather conditions and relief from the ongoing heatwave. Residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and take necessary precautions as the monsoon progresses.
