Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital Trust Alleges ₹1200 Crore Embezzlement by Former Trustees

A forensic audit has revealed large-scale financial fraud, prompting fresh complaints with the police and Enforcement Directorate.

March 11, 2025: In a shocking financial scandal, the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, which runs Mumbai’s prestigious Lilavati Hospital, has alleged that its former trustees siphoned off ₹1200 crore over the years. The total misappropriated amount is suspected to be around ₹2100 crore, making it one of the biggest scams in India’s medical sector.

On March 7, 2025, the Trust filed a fresh complaint with the Bandra police and a formal case with the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The misappropriation of funds has allegedly affected critical hospital services, impacting thousands of patients daily.

According to Parambir Singh, former Mumbai Police Commissioner and now Executive Director of Lilavati Hospital, the suspect trustees are currently residing in Belgium and Dubai.

Adding an eerie twist, eight urns containing human remains (bones and hair) were found buried under the flooring of the trustee’s office. The items were immediately sealed and sent for forensic examination by the police.

“This is a betrayal of the trust placed in the former trustees. We demand swift action from the Enforcement Directorate under PMLA provisions.”
