Police in Mysuru solve rare case involving specially-abled victim and accused with help of sign language experts.
April 10, 2026: Police in Mysuru have uncovered the murder of a 32-year-old speech and hearing-impaired man following a months-long investigation, in a rare case where both the victim and the accused are specially-abled. Investigators relied heavily on sign language experts to piece together evidence and statements.
The victim, Swami, a resident of Devarammanahalli Palya in Nanjangud taluk, lived with his wife Savita, who is also speech and hearing-impaired, and their young daughter. According to police, the prime accused, Srinivas from Kunigal in Tumakuru district, had developed a close acquaintance with the couple and allegedly harboured feelings for Swami’s wife.
Officials said Srinivas conspired with two other specially-abled associates to kill Swami. What initially began as a missing person case soon turned into a murder investigation. Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi confirmed that two accused have been arrested, while teams are working to apprehend the third suspect.
The case stands out due to its unusual nature, with investigators navigating communication barriers through expert assistance, ultimately solving the crime and bringing those responsible closer to justice.
