Nasimuddin Siddiqui To Join SP Ahead Of 2027 Polls
Senior leaders switch sides as Akhilesh Yadav eyes minority consolidation
February 13, 2026: In a significant political development in Uttar Pradesh, senior leader Nasimuddin Siddiqui is set to join the Samajwadi Party (SP) on February 15 ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The former BSP heavyweight and ex-Congress member recently resigned from the Congress on January 24 after efforts to retain him reportedly failed. Several other leaders, including former minister Anis Ahmed (Phool Babu) and Apna Dal’s former Uttar Pradesh president, are also expected to join the SP under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav.
Siddiqui, a prominent Muslim political figure from Banda and the Bundelkhand region, has been actively touring districts to consolidate his support base following his exit from Congress. Anis Ahmed, known for his influence in Pilibhit and his strong BSP background, is also seen as a key addition to the SP’s ranks. Their entry is being viewed as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the party’s organisational base across multiple regions.
The move is expected to bolster the SP’s outreach among minority communities, particularly in Western Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand, as it prepares for the 2027 electoral battle. With the inclusion of seasoned leaders, the party aims to sharpen its electoral strategy and enhance its appeal among Muslim voters and other key constituencies in the state.
