Navy Chief Praises Reading Culture at NDWBF

Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi calls young readers at World Book Fair a hopeful sign for future leadership

January 17, 2026: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi expressed satisfaction over the strong presence of young readers at the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) 2026, describing it as a reassuring sign for the future of learning and leadership. Interacting with visitors, he emphasised the link between reading and leadership, stating that while not all readers become leaders, all leaders are readers. Sharing personal insights, the Navy Chief said reading sharpens decision-making not just in combat but also in daily life, and encouraged people to build a consistent reading habit, even if it is only a few pages a day.

The seventh day of NDWBF 2026 saw heavy footfall across Bharat Mandapam’s Halls 2 to 6, with visitors of all age groups thronging the venue. Many arrived carrying trolley bags and suitcases, reflecting large-scale book purchases and sustained interest in physical books despite the digital age. The fair continued to attract prominent dignitaries, including Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Mizoram Governor Gen. V.K. Singh, and former Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit.

At the Theme Pavilion, Admiral Tripathi released Forged by the Sea: The Indian Navy Story, a book chronicling India’s maritime heritage and the evolution of the modern Navy. The event also featured discussions on the depiction of the armed forces in cinema, women’s leadership roles in the military, and the future of reading in the digital era. With literary sessions, panel discussions and cultural exchanges, NDWBF 2026 continued to stand out as a vibrant platform celebrating books, ideas and national identity.
