A woman recounts her harrowing encounter with an Ola driver and suspicious strangers, raising urgent concerns about passenger safety and app reliability.
December 23, 2024: In a deeply unsettling incident, a woman recently shared her nightmarish experience with Ola Cabs on LinkedIn, highlighting critical lapses in safety protocols and the failure of the SOS feature on the Ola app. The incident took place on December 20 at 1:30 PM during a trip to Gurgaon, leaving her shaken and alarmed about passenger safety.
A Ride Turns Into a Nightmare
The ordeal began after the cab crossed a toll plaza en route to Gurgaon. The driver unexpectedly slowed down the vehicle without providing any explanation. Shortly after, two men standing ahead signaled the driver to pull over, and to the passenger’s shock, the driver complied without hesitation.

When the woman demanded answers, her concerns were met with silence. As the situation escalated, two more men on motorcycles joined the scene, increasing the number of suspicious individuals to five, including the driver. The incident occurred near the National Media Centre, an isolated stretch with minimal traffic.
Driver’s Cryptic Remark and Passenger’s Escape
During the tense situation, the driver mentioned, “Meri kist pending hai” (my installment is due), hinting at financial entanglements with the strangers. The woman insisted that the driver resume the trip, but her pleas were ignored as the men started approaching the vehicle.
In a moment of sheer bravery, the passenger opened the door on the right side of the cab and ran to safety. She later attempted to use the SOS button on the Ola app, only to discover that it did not work in her time of need.
A Call for Accountability
The woman has since urged Ola’s CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, to take immediate and concrete steps to enhance passenger safety and address the systemic flaws in the app’s safety features. She emphasized that safety is not just a feature but a fundamental responsibility of any ride-hailing platform.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are reportedly investigating the matter, and Ola has yet to issue an official response. This incident has reignited national conversations about the safety of women passengers in ride-hailing services and the reliability of emergency support systems.
Passengers are now calling for stricter driver background checks, functional safety features, and quicker response protocols from cab aggregators like Ola to prevent such incidents from recurring.
