No Link Between Covid-19 Vaccines and Sudden Deaths, Says Health Ministry
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has firmly stated that Covid-19 vaccines and sudden deaths — particularly those caused by heart attacks — are not scientifically linked, based on findings from extensive research.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, the ministry cited comprehensive studies by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), which concluded there is no evidence of causality between the vaccines and recent surges in sudden adult deaths.
“Extensive studies by ICMR and AIIMS on sudden deaths among adults post-COVID have conclusively established no linkage between COVID-19 vaccines and sudden deaths,” the ministry said.
Supporting these findings, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also reaffirmed that India’s Covid vaccines are both safe and effective, with only extremely rare occurrences of serious side effects reported.
The ministry clarified that sudden cardiac deaths can arise from a variety of causes — many of which are unrelated to vaccination.
“Sudden cardiac deaths can result from a wide range of factors, including genetics, lifestyle, pre-existing conditions, and post-COVID complications,” the statement read.
Officials emphasized that linking Covid-19 vaccines to these deaths is misleading and lacks any scientific backing.
“Scientific experts have reiterated that statements linking COVID vaccination to sudden deaths are false and misleading and are not supported by scientific consensus,” the ministry reiterated.
The statement comes in the wake of the sudden death of popular actor Shefali Jariwala, whose passing last week prompted widespread shock and further fueled online rumors about vaccine-related fatalities.
The 42-year-old collapsed at her Mumbai residence on Friday night. Her husband, television actor Parag Tyagi, rushed her to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Andheri, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities have so far ruled out foul play.
“We are awaiting the post-mortem report,” said a police official, who also noted that preliminary suspicions point to a sudden drop in blood pressure and possible cardiac arrest as the cause of death. Her body was later moved to R.N. Cooper Hospital in Juhu for further examination.
Since the onset of the pandemic, especially post-2020, a visible rise in heart attack-related deaths among young adults has sparked intense public concern — and in some cases, outright speculation linking these incidents to Covid-19 vaccinations.
With the latest findings from ICMR, AIIMS, and NCDC, the government hopes to end misinformation and reassure the public about the continued safety of Covid-19 vaccines.
“These conclusions aim to reassure citizens and provide scientific clarity amid speculation,” the Health Ministry stated.
