Lok Sabha Secretariat flags deficiencies, Speaker orders corrections instead of rejection

February 11, 2026: The notice submitted by Opposition MPs seeking the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has been found to contain procedural deficiencies, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has said. According to reports, the document repeatedly cited events from February 2025—mentioning them four times—a reference that could have made it liable for rejection under parliamentary rules.

However, instead of dismissing the proposal on technical grounds, Speaker Om Birla has directed officials to allow corrective steps. He instructed the Secretariat to have the deficiencies rectified and process the matter in accordance with established procedures, while ensuring that it is handled expeditiously once resubmitted.

The revised notice will be examined under the prescribed rules after it is filed again. Parliamentary officials indicated that the matter is likely to be listed after the second phase of the ongoing Budget Session begins, with further action dependent on whether the corrected submission meets procedural requirements.
