April 8,2025: Senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram collapsed due to heat exhaustion during the party’s extended Working Committee meeting in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, April 8. Chidambaram was one of the key senior leaders attending the Congress’ symbolic session at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial, which aims to underline the party’s commitment to social justice and organisational revival. The outdoor venue, though historically resonant—being near the spot from where Mahatma Gandhi launched the Salt March—was subject to intense heat conditions in Gujarat.
The Ahmedabad session marks a significant event for the Congress, where it not only passed a resolution to uphold Sardar Patel’s secular legacy but also launched a major internal restructuring campaign. Over 1,700 party delegates are expected to participate in the main conclave scheduled for April 9.
