Pakistan Demands International Probe Into Pahalgam Attack, Says ‘Russia, China Can Expose Modi’

Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif calls for a global investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack, while controversially admitting Pakistan’s past support for terror groups during the Cold War era.

April 27, 2025: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has called for an international investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that countries like Russia, China, and even Western nations should help determine whether “India or Modi is lying.”

In an interview with Russian state media outlet RIA Novosti, Asif said, “Russia, China or even Western countries can play a very positive role. Let an international team investigate who is telling the truth. Let’s find out who the real culprit is.”

Backing Asif’s call, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier expressed willingness for a neutral probe into the attack, where terrorists from The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, killed 26 civilians, including a Nepali national.

Asif accused India of making “empty statements” without evidence and insisted that mere allegations without proof could not implicate Pakistan.

However, controversy deepened when Khawaja Asif, during a separate interview with Sky News, admitted Pakistan’s past involvement with terror groups during the Cold War. Responding to pointed questions from journalist Yalda Hakim, Asif said,
“We have been doing this dirty work for the United States and the West, including Britain, for about three decades.”

This rare admission has fueled further skepticism about Pakistan’s credibility amid growing global condemnation following the Pahalgam carnage.

Meanwhile, tensions between India and Pakistan remain high, with New Delhi suspending the Indus Water Treaty, scaling down diplomatic ties, and expelling Pakistani diplomats in the wake of the attack.
