Harsh Vardhan Shringla urges strong diplomatic and international response to terror, backs Centre’s action post-Pahalgam massacre
Darjeeling, April 24: Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has strongly condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, asserting that Pakistan has repeatedly turned to terrorism to derail India’s progress. He called for a resolute response, not only from India but also from the global community.
“Every time India takes a step forward—be it after 26/11, Pulwama, or now Pahalgam—Pakistan reverts to terrorism. Their aim is to distract, destabilize, and reverse the clock on India’s development,” Shringla said while speaking to ANI.
🛑 “Terrorism Must Not Pay”
Shringla stressed the need for Pakistan to face consequences for state-sponsored terrorism.
“India must draw a red line. We don’t seek conflict, but we will never tolerate attacks on our people. The message must be clear—terrorism does not pay,” he stated.
⚖️ Diplomatic Measures Applauded
Shringla also lauded the swift actions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which included:
- Suspending the Indus Waters Treaty
- Reducing diplomatic staff at both High Commissions
- Expelling military attachés
- Cancelling SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals
“The government has moved quickly and decisively. These are critical steps—both symbolic and strategic—to isolate Pakistan and secure our national interests,” he added.
📍 Pahalgam Massacre: A Grim Reminder
The April 22 terror attack at Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali national, leaving many others injured. The incident is one of the deadliest in Jammu and Kashmir since Pulwama 2019, where 40 CRPF personnel were killed.
Shringla concluded that India’s response must be firm, united, and supported globally to prevent any further erosion of peace and to ensure that terror-sponsoring states are held accountable on all fronts.
