Pakistan Violates Ceasefire in Poonch Amid Rising Tensions Over Pahalgam Terror Attack
April 28, 2025: Pakistani troops once again violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, marking the fourth consecutive night of firing and the first targeted attack in the Poonch sector, officials confirmed early Monday.
“During the night of April 27-28, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts,” the Indian Army said in a statement. Indian forces responded “swiftly and effectively,” it added.
This escalation comes amid heightened tensions following the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam last Tuesday, where 26 civilians were killed. Investigations have linked the attack to The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
In retaliation to the terror attack, India has implemented several punitive measures against Pakistan, including expelling Pakistani military attaches, suspending the over 60-year-old Indus Waters Treaty, and shutting down the Attari land border transit post.

The strong decisions were taken after a high-level Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who vowed that India would “identify, track, and punish” every terrorist and their “backers” responsible for the bloodshed.
In response, Pakistan has also announced the suspension of all bilateral agreements with India, including the landmark Simla Agreement.

Meanwhile, authorities have released sketches of three suspects linked to the Pahalgam attack — Hashim Musa alias Suleman and Ali Bhai alias Talha Bhai, both Pakistani nationals, and Adil Hussain Thoker from Anantnag district. A reward of ₹20 lakh has been announced for credible information leading to their capture.
The situation along the border remains tense, with both military and diplomatic stakes running high.
