Pappu Yadav Arrest Sparks Row
Purnia MP alleges threat to life, calls arrest in 31-year-old case a political vendetta
February 7, 2026: Purnia MP Pappu Yadav has levelled serious allegations against the Patna Police after being arrested in connection with a 31-year-old property dispute. According to the case, Yadav had rented a house in Patna three decades ago and is accused of illegally occupying the premises and running an office from there. Acting on a court order, police reached his residence late at night to carry out the arrest, triggering an immediate controversy.
Yadav strongly objected to the timing and manner of the police action, claiming his life was in danger. He alleged that police personnel arrived in civil clothes during the night, treated him like a criminal, and did not immediately show him a copy of the arrest warrant. His claims led to heated arguments, while his supporters gathered outside the residence and protested loudly against the police action.
Dismissing the case as a pretext, Yadav alleged that he was being targeted for raising his voice in support of a NEET aspirant. His supporters termed the arrest a political conspiracy and accused the government of attempting to silence those fighting for justice, escalating political tensions across Bihar.
