
Parliament Erupts in Chaos Over Maha Kumbh Stampede; Opposition Demands Accountability

The Budget Session of Parliament resumed amidst uproar and protests from the Opposition over the stampede that occurred during the second ‘Amrit Snan’ at the Maha Kumbh Mela on January 29. The tragic incident resulted in 30 reported deaths, but opposition parties claim the actual toll is significantly higher.

Chanting slogans of “Kumbh pe jawab do” (Answer on Kumbh), opposition members demanded the government release an official and comprehensive list of the deceased. The protestors also criticized the handling of the situation, alleging lapses in crowd management that led to the fatal crush.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju called for calm, urging parliamentarians to avoid disrupting proceedings and ensure constructive debate. Despite his appeal, the session continued to witness chaos as opposition members pressed for an immediate response from the government.
