Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee exchange sharp allegations ahead of crucial West Bengal elections.

April 9, 2026: A political showdown intensified in West Bengal as Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee traded sharp accusations at separate rallies. While Modi accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of misgovernance and “cruelty,” Banerjee countered by alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party had removed over 90 lakh names from voter lists.

Addressing a rally in Asansol, Modi said a regime change in the state was “inevitable,” claiming that the TMC’s “repository of sins” was full. He accused the party of fostering syndicate rule and mafia activities while highlighting a decline in Bengal’s contribution to national GDP. The Prime Minister also alleged that industries had weakened and youth were being deprived of opportunities, promising that a BJP government would revive the economy with major investments and transparent governance.

At another rally in Haldia, Modi reiterated his attack, accusing the TMC of promoting fear, corruption, and vote-bank politics. He promised “six guarantees” and pledged to restore trust, create jobs, and ensure accountability if voted to power. Meanwhile, Banerjee’s allegations over voter list manipulation added a fresh dimension to the political battle, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral contest.
