New Delhi, December 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful address in the Lok Sabha on Saturday, marking 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution. Criticizing the Congress for its historical “disrespect” of the Constitution, PM Modi highlighted his government’s commitment to constitutional values, development, and unity. He concluded with eleven pledges aimed at transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
Criticism of Congress’s Constitutional Legacy
PM Modi accused Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi family of repeatedly disrespecting the Constitution and pursuing self-serving amendments. He cited instances such as the Emergency, the overturning of Supreme Court judgments, and the introduction of Article 35A without parliamentary approval.
“Congress has continuously disrespected the Constitution and reduced its importance,” Modi stated, adding that past amendments often clipped judiciary powers or curtailed fundamental rights. He also criticized Congress for dynastic politics, saying it stifled democracy and misused constitutional provisions for political gain.
The Prime Minister revisited key historical controversies, including the Shah Bano case reversal and the 39th Constitutional Amendment during the Emergency, calling them “grave insults” to the Constitution.
Achievements Under BJP Rule
Highlighting his government’s achievements, PM Modi said that amendments made under BJP’s leadership corrected past mistakes. He cited the removal of Article 370, the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and constitutional measures to protect marginalized communities.
PM Modi noted that his government’s initiatives, including free ration for 25 crore Indians and a zero-tolerance approach to corruption, were aligned with the spirit of the Constitution. He also praised India’s rapid progress toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy and emphasized women-led development as a cornerstone of future growth.

The Prime Minister concluded his address by presenting eleven pledges inspired by the Constitution:
- Duties First: Citizens and governments must prioritize their duties for national progress.
- Inclusive Development: Ensure that development benefits every section of society.
- Zero Tolerance for Corruption: Eradicate social acceptance of corruption.
- Pride in Laws and Traditions: Foster respect for India’s laws and heritage.
- Freedom from Colonial Mindsets: Embrace and celebrate India’s cultural legacy.
- End to Dynastic Politics: Commit to transparent, merit-based leadership.
- Preservation of Reservations: Protect existing reservation rights and prevent religion-based quotas.
- Women-Led Development: Make India a global example of women-driven progress.
- State-Driven Growth: Strengthen the nation through state-level development initiatives.
- Unity Above All: Promote the mantra of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
- Vision for 2047: Aspire for a fully developed India by the 100th year of independence.
“The dream of a developed India is the shared vision of 140 crore Indians. Let’s resolve that when we celebrate 100 years of independence in 2047, India will be a beacon of development,” PM Modi said.

Emphasizing the role of unity, the Prime Minister said India’s diversity is its greatest strength. “Unity in diversity has been India’s hallmark, and the country’s progress lies in celebrating this diversity,” he added.
PM Modi called upon citizens to embody the Constitution’s principles of “We, the people…” and move forward with determination to achieve the goal of a Viksit Bharat.
