PM calls tea the “soul of Assam” as he connects with workers before key campaign events

April 1, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited a tea garden in Dibrugarh ahead of crucial election rallies, spotlighting the importance of Assam’s tea industry. Calling tea the “soul of Assam,” Modi interacted with workers, especially women, and described the experience as memorable, sharing photos and a selfie from the visit on social media.

He praised tea garden families for their contribution, saying their dedication has enhanced the state’s global identity. Assam remains India’s largest tea-producing state, contributing over half of the country’s total output and supporting lakhs of livelihoods. The visit highlighted both the cultural and economic significance of the sector in the poll-bound state.

Later in the day, Modi is scheduled to address rallies in Dhemaji and Biswanath, campaigning for BJP candidates ahead of the April 9 assembly elections. The polls will cover all 126 seats, with results to be declared on May 4, alongside outcomes in other key states.
