PM Modi Launches Full Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor

82-km high-speed link to cut travel time to 55 minutes

February 22, 2026: Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the full Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor at Rally Ground in Mohiuddinpur, Meerut, marking a major boost to connectivity in the National Capital Region. With the entire 82.15-km corridor now operational, commuters can travel between Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and Modipuram in Meerut in about 55 minutes. The Uttar Pradesh government said the project, carried out under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, reflects rapid expansion in modern transport infrastructure and will promote faster, safer and eco-friendly travel while spurring regional economic growth.

Built at an estimated cost of over ₹30,000 crore, the corridor includes nearly 70 km of elevated track and around 12 km underground. The remaining stretches, including the 5-km segment from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar and the 21-km section from Meerut South to Modipuram, have now been opened for passenger services. The fare for the full journey is expected to be around ₹213. The Prime Minister had laid the foundation stone of the Rapid Rail project on March 8, 2019, with a 17-km priority stretch inaugurated in October 2023 before phased expansions completed the route.

Alongside the corridor launch, Modi also flagged off the Meerut Metro, spanning about 23 km between Meerut South and Modipuram with 13 stations. Touted as the country’s fastest metro service with a top speed of 120 kmph, the three-coach trains can carry around 700 passengers. Featuring integrated ticketing with Namo Bharat, modern safety systems, and accessibility-focused station design, the project is expected to ease highway congestion and significantly enhance regional mobility across Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.
