PM Modi Namibia Visit Live Updates: PM Modi Emplanes For Namibia After Completing Visit To Brazil

July 9, 2025: In a historic moment for India-Brazil relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Tuesday conferred with the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross, Brazil’s highest civilian honour. The award, presented by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, recognizes Modi’s leadership in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting cooperation on global platforms such as BRICS, G20, and the United Nations.

This prestigious recognition marks the 26th international award conferred on PM Modi since he assumed office in 2014.

Ceremonial Welcome Reflects Growing Ties

In a grand ceremony held at the Alvorada Palace in Brasília, Prime Minister Modi received full state honours. The occasion featured a 114-horse ceremonial parade, the playing of both national anthems, and a traditional guard of honour, symbolising the warmth and strategic depth of the India-Brazil partnership.

President Lula personally welcomed the Indian leader, underscoring the respect and camaraderie shared between the two nations.

Strengthening Economic and Strategic Cooperation

Following the award ceremony, the two leaders engaged in comprehensive bilateral talks. Prime Minister Modi described the discussions as “fruitful”, highlighting shared interests in trade, technology, climate action, and South-South cooperation.

Both sides emphasized the potential to diversify economic engagement, build robust supply chains, and expand strategic cooperation, particularly in sectors like energy, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture.

Cultural Diplomacy on Display

In a heartwarming cultural gesture, Modi was welcomed with a lively dance performance based on the Indian theme ‘Op Sindoor’, celebrating the rich cultural ties and increasing people-to-people connections between the two countries.

Looking Ahead: Africa Next

Brazil is one of the final legs of PM Modi’s ongoing multi-nation diplomatic tour. His next stop will be Namibia, where the focus will be on strengthening India-Africa relations, especially in areas like wildlife conservation, education, and capacity-building under the South-South framework.

As India seeks to amplify its global influence, the Brazilian visit underscores the strategic importance of Latin America in India’s foreign policy matrix and its pursuit of a multipolar world order.
