PM Modi Pays Tribute To Pulwama Martyrs On Black Day
PM, Vice President honour 40 CRPF personnel killed in 2019 attack
February 14, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid heartfelt tribute to the 40 CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack. Marking the anniversary, observed as ‘Black Day’, he said the courage and sacrifice of the fallen soldiers continue to inspire the nation. In a post on X, Modi remembered their devotion and resolve, stating that their service remains forever etched in the country’s collective consciousness. Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan also paid homage, calling their supreme sacrifice a lasting chapter in India’s history.
The attack took place on February 14, 2019, in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, when a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force was targeted on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway. The convoy comprised 78 buses carrying around 2,500 personnel travelling from Jammu to Srinagar. The Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility, stating that a suicide bomber carried out the strike.
In the aftermath of the attack, India launched counter-terror operations, including airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan, significantly escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. The Pulwama attack remains one of the deadliest terror strikes in the region and continues to shape national discourse on security and cross-border terrorism.
