Hyderabad (Telangana) [India]: Ahead of the coming Telangana assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday fired a sharp barb at the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) stating that nepotism, corruption and appeasement politics lie in the DNA of the two parties.
“There are some factors common between the Congress and the BRS, which are nepotism, corruption, and appeasement politics. They lie in the DNA of both Congress and the BRS. Corruption blooms under their protection. The Congress and the BRS will never let a Backward Class person become the Chief Minister,” PM Modi said at a poll campaign in Telangana’s Hyderabad.
Lauding the BJP-led NDA government at the centre, the Prime Minister said, “It is the NDA that caters to the rights of the Backward Class people. It is the NDA that provides fair representation to them. We made APJ Abdul Kalam president of the country. In 1996, when a tribal leader, PS Sangamaji was selected for the post of the Lok Sabha speaker, Atalji gave full support”.
“It is the NDA that gave the country its first tribal Lok Sabha speaker, Bal Yogiji. We made Droupadi Murmu, who is a tribal woman, and president of the country. We selected Ram Nath Kovind, who is a BC leader, for the post of president. The NDA chose me, the country’s first OBC Prime Minister, with the blessings of the countrymen. There are 27 OBC cabinet ministers, which is a record in itself,” he added.
Speaking on the Telangana assembly polls, the Prime Minister said, “There is a storm for a change in Telangana. The state has faith in the BJP. Everyone is in the mood for a change in Telangana. For the last nine years, there has been an ‘anti-development’ government. Now, it is the time to throw it out. You have to ensure that the ‘lotus’ blooms here in the state”
Taking a swipe at the BRS government in Telangana, PM Modi said, “The BRS government has deceived the people of the state. It was only engrossed in its family. Even the Congress is the ‘C’ team of the BRS, which does not take into account the interests of the Backward Class people”.
“BC, SC, ST, and poor class people are now standing with the BJP. For these people, the BJP has brought PM-Vishwakarma scheme so that they can live their lives with respect”, PM Modi added.
“An arrogance can be seen within the BRS leaders. In the 2019 general assembly polls, the Telangana people gave a befitting reply to the ‘arrogant CM’ with the power of votes. So the BRS leaders keep abusing me. BRS’s corruption is linked to the Delhi liquor scam case.
When the probe agencies started investigating the matter, the leaders started abusing it, too. But I want to tell everyone that there will be a legal action in all the corruption cases,” PM Modi further said.
Attacking the opposition over the corruption cases, the Prime Minister said, “The ones who have looted the public, they will have to return everything to the public. Yeh Modi ki guarantee hai (This is Modi’s guarantee). BRS and Congress are the two sides of the same coin. Their intentions are of looting the resources of the state. Both of them are engaged in taking ahead their sons and daughters. They do not care about your sons and daughters”.
“The BRS did not fulfil a single promise which it made to come to power in the state. The Telangana government has betrayed the youths. There are lapses in every exam, it has now become an identification of this government. What happened to their promise to provide employment? Tell me now if such government needs to be thrown out or not”, said the PM.
“During the daunting period of the Covid-19, Modi, who understands poverty, decided not to let the poor children stay hungry. He decided not to let the poor people suffer due to hunger. Therefore, we started ‘free ration’ for the poor. I have pledge to increase the amount of ration being provided to the poor. Yeh Modi ki guarantee hai,” he added.
Telangana will go to assembly elections on November 30 and counting of votes, along with those of four other poll-bound states, has been scheduled for December 3.
The state is set to witness a triangular contest among the BJP, BRS and the Congress.
In the previous Assembly election in 2018, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), previously known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), won 88 of the 119 seats, hogging 47.4 per cent of the total vote share. The Congress came in a distant second with just 19 seats.
