Narendra Modi attacks Trinamool Congress in Asansol, promises development and governance change ahead of polls.
April 9, 2026: Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a sharp political attack on the Trinamool Congress while addressing a rally in Asansol. He accused the ruling party of creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, alleging that Hindus were being threatened in the name of a specific community. Calling the April 23 polling date crucial, he said the people of West Bengal seek security for their land, faith, and future.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns over women’s safety, citing incidents such as those in RG Kar Medical College and Sandeshkhali. He accused the TMC of supporting wrongdoers and claimed that women feel increasingly unsafe in the state. Referring to recent tensions in Malda, Modi criticised alleged remarks against security forces and asserted that law and order would improve after May 4.
Alongside his criticism, Modi highlighted development initiatives, including the expansion of the ESI Hospital, investments in steel plants, and improved rail connectivity such as the Asansol-Bokaro train service. He also mentioned projects like the Durgapur-Haldia gas pipeline, upgrades at Andal Railway Station, and the introduction of Vande Bharat trains. Framing the election as a turning point, he urged voters to reject past regimes and support a BJP-led government for development and stable governance.
