After BJP’s resounding victory in Delhi, Parvesh Verma outlines the party’s key priorities, including an SIT probe into AAP’s alleged corruption, Yamuna riverfront development, and financial assistance for women.
New Delhi, February 8: After securing a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Parvesh Verma on Saturday promised to fulfill the party’s commitments to the people, with setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe corruption under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government among the new administration’s top priorities.
Parvesh Verma's Big Win Over Kejriwal
Verma, who pulled off a major upset by defeating former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by over 4,000 votes in the New Delhi constituency, credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, and Home Minister Amit Shah for the party’s sweeping win.
"I thank the voters of New Delhi, lakhs of hard-working workers, and PM Narendra Modi. This is truly his victory. People have expressed their trust in him. BJP chief JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah took charge and led an extensive campaign, boosting workers' morale. This victory belongs to everyone," Verma told media.
Top Priorities of the New BJP Government in Delhi
Outlining the BJP-led government’s roadmap, Verma stated that fulfilling election promises would be the primary focus.
"Our priority will be to give ₹2,500 per month to women, set up an SIT to investigate corruption, develop the Yamuna riverfront, reduce pollution, and ease traffic congestion. We will build a capital that everyone will be proud of," he added.
BJP had repeatedly targeted AAP over alleged corruption during the campaign, frequently mocking Kejriwal’s government with "sheeshmahal" jibes—referring to his luxurious residence and spending habits.
BJP to Decide Delhi’s Next Chief Minister
With speculation rife about Delhi’s next Chief Minister, Verma maintained that the decision would be taken collectively by the BJP leadership and party MLAs.
"In our party, the legislative party decides the CM candidate, and the party leadership gives its approval. So, the party's decision will be acceptable to everyone," he clarified.
Public Trust in BJP and PM Modi, Says Verma’s Wife
Swati Singh Verma, Parvesh Verma’s wife, expressed gratitude to the people of Delhi for choosing BJP.
"Today's victory shows that people trust BJP and PM Modi. The people of Delhi were fed up with different governments for the past 26 years. Now, real development will happen," she said.
BJP Poised to Form Government After 27 Years
With the latest tally from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BJP is leading or has won 48 seats, while AAP has won or is leading in 22 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly.
This historic victory marks the end of AAP’s decade-long rule and BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 27 years, signaling a major political shift in the national capital.
