AAP Chief appeals to Delhiites not to sell their votes, alleges BJP distributing money and goods to influence elections
New Delhi, January 14: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of distributing money and goods to influence voters ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. He urged Delhiites not to sell their votes, calling them "more precious than diamonds."
Accusations Against BJP
At a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that BJP leaders were engaging in corrupt practices by distributing cash, gold chains, and other goods in selective areas.
"They neither have a vision nor a Chief Ministerial face. Now they have stooped to dishonesty. They are openly distributing money. Their party sent Rs 10,000, but their leaders kept Rs 9,000 and gave just Rs 1,000 to the public," Kejriwal claimed.
He further alleged that the BJP’s attempts at bribery were limited to a few colonies, leaving many residents angry.
"For the past 1-2 days, they’ve even started distributing gold chains. Their leaders need to explain where the public’s money, saris, and other items have gone," he added.
An Appeal to Voters
Kejriwal called on the public to resist these attempts to buy votes, labeling such actions as traitorous.
"Take whatever they offer, but do not sell your vote. Our vote is more precious than diamonds. Even if you don’t vote for AAP, do not vote for those indulging in such corrupt practices," he urged.
He also reiterated AAP’s commitment to honesty and reform, stating, "We are not here to just win elections; we are here to change the country."
Election Commission Involvement
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi to investigate AAP’s complaints against BJP candidate Parvesh Verma.
AAP has alleged that Verma, who is contesting from the New Delhi constituency, has violated the Model Code of Conduct by organizing events like health camps and job fairs, which involve the distribution of goods.
"This falls under corrupt practices according to the Election Commission's rules. Parvesh Verma should be barred from contesting the election," Kejriwal said.
