Arvind Kejriwal accuses Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini of “pretending” to drink Yamuna water as BJP leaders dismiss AAP’s poisoning claims.
New Delhi, January 29: The political battle over Yamuna water quality has escalated, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleging that Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini “pretended” to drink Yamuna water but secretly spat it out.
This comes after Kejriwal accused the Haryana government of poisoning Delhi’s water supply, warning that the contaminated water could have led to mass fatalities.
Kejriwal, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), shared a video of Saini allegedly spitting out the water after taking a sip in Delhi’s Palla village.
“Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini pretended to drink Yamuna water… and then spat it back into the river,” Kejriwal wrote.
Haryana CM Denies Allegations, Calls Kejriwal’s Remarks ‘Fear-Mongering’
Rejecting Kejriwal’s claims, CM Naib Singh Saini dismissed the allegations as political propaganda meant to instill fear among Delhi residents before the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
“An unfortunate statement by Arvind Kejriwal meant to create fear for his political benefits,” Saini told reporters.
The Haryana Water Resource Authority conducted water tests from the Yamuna and found no signs of poisoning, Saini claimed.
“He said BJP has poisoned Yamuna water and called it mass genocide. But the truth is, no contamination was found. Kejriwal has lied all his life,” Saini added.

The controversy has drawn strong reactions from BJP leaders, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticizing Kejriwal’s remarks.
“The people of AAP say Haryana is mixing poison in Delhi’s water. This is not just an insult to Haryana but to all Indians. Such fear of losing that they are saying anything. I am sure Delhi will teach them a lesson,” PM Modi said.
“AAP’s boat will sink in the Yamuna,” he added.
Election Battle Heats Up in Delhi
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, 2025, with vote counting on February 8.
