In a deeply saddening development for the Indian sporting community, Vengalil Sreenivasan, husband of legendary sprinter and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, passed away in the early hours of Friday, January 30, 2026. He was 67 years old.
Sreenivasan collapsed at their residence in Perumalpuram, Thikkodi (Kerala), at approximately 12:30 AM. Although he was rushed to a nearby private hospital, he could not be revived and was declared dead on arrival.
A Life of Quiet Support
Vengalil Sreenivasan was widely recognized as the “pillar of strength” behind PT Usha’s transition from a world-class athlete to a prominent sports administrator and Member of Parliament.
