Pune Accidents Claim Lives, PM Modi Extends Support and Prayers

June 19, 2025: PM Modi on Thursday expressed grief over a tragic road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune, Maharashtra, which claimed seven lives. In his message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on X, he said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”

He also announced an ex gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the families of the deceased, and ₹50,000 each to the injured.

The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday when a sedan collided with a pickup truck on the Jejuri-Morgaon road. Confirming the incident, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill said, “Seven people died in a road accident between a sedan and a pickup truck in Pune district. Further details are awaited.”

This heartbreaking incident comes just days after another tragedy in the region. On June 15, four people lost their lives and over 50 were injured when a bridge collapsed over the Indrayani River in Pune. The collapse happened on a Sunday afternoon and led to a massive rescue operation.

Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi shared details of the incident, saying, “A total of 51 people were injured and are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Sadly, four individuals lost their lives. Three of the deceased were identified as Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, and Vihaan Mane, while one male victim remains unidentified.”

He added that the bridge collapse occurred at 3:15 pm, and within 15 minutes, a 250-member rescue team was deployed. “So far, we have rescued around 38 people,” he informed.

These back-to-back tragedies have left the region in shock and mourning, as authorities continue to investigate both incidents.
