Police Nab Serial Offender Who Posed as Cop, Was Involved in Multiple Crimes
February 28, 2025: After an intense 75-hour manhunt, Pune police have arrested Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, the 37-year-old accused of raping a woman inside a bus at Pune’s Swargate bus station. The arrest took place on Friday in the Shrirur Tehsil after a massive search operation involving 13 police teams, drones, and sniffer dogs.

Horrific Crime at Pune’s Swargate Bus Station
- The 26-year-old victim, who works in the medical field, was waiting for a bus to Satara when the accused lured her into an empty bus on Tuesday morning (February 25, 2025).
- Gade posed as a helpful stranger, calling her ‘didi’ (sister) and convinced her that her bus was at a different platform.
- Inside the dark, empty Shiv Shahi AC bus, he sexually assaulted her between 5:45 AM and 6:00 AM, just 100 meters from a police station.

- Gade, a resident of Gunat village in Pune, has a history of crimes, including theft, robbery, and chain-snatching in Pune and Ahilyanagar.
- He had been posing as a police officer for months and was out on bail since 2019.
- The police launched an extensive search operation, using 13 teams, drones, and sniffer dogs, scouring sugarcane fields in his village.
- A reward of ₹1 lakh was announced for any information on his whereabouts.
- He was finally arrested in Shrirur Tehsil.
Police & Public Reactions
Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, reacting to the case, reminded authorities of the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case, highlighting the need for swift justice.
This case has sparked outrage, with demands for strict action and better safety measures for women in public spaces.
