Punjab to Set Up Trade Commission
Bhagwant Mann government rolls out single-window mechanism for traders
February 18, 2026: The Government of Punjab led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has initiated the rollout of the proposed Punjab Trade Commission to streamline business processes for traders, shopkeepers and entrepreneurs across the state. Finance, Excise & Taxation, and Planning Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the move reflects the government’s commitment to making governance more efficient and trader-friendly. The Commission aims to simplify routine approvals, reduce procedural delays and improve grievance redressal through a structured interface between the government and the trading community.
Cheema said the key objective is to ensure traders no longer have to move between multiple offices for minor clearances or day-to-day business issues. The proposed body will function as a dedicated platform offering clear accountability and time-bound solutions, helping save time, effort and money for small businesses. Officials believe the single-window mechanism will enhance transparency and provide faster resolution of routine administrative hurdles.
As part of the groundwork, review meetings have been held in ten districts, including Faridkot, Ludhiana, Patiala and Bathinda, to prepare an operational roadmap. Consultations with local officials, trader bodies and small business owners are underway to ensure the Commission addresses ground-level concerns. The state government expects the initiative to cut red tape and strengthen the ease of doing business environment in Punjab.
