Rahul Gandhi Slams Kejriwal, Modi Over ‘False Promises’ Ahead of Delhi Elections
New Delhi, January 29: As the Delhi Assembly elections draw closer, Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi has launched a sharp attack on AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him—along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi—of making false promises to the people of Delhi.
Speaking at a rally in Bawana, Rahul Gandhi specifically called out Kejriwal for failing to clean the Yamuna River, a promise the Delhi CM made five years ago.
“Kejriwal and Modi both make false promises… Kejriwal had promised Delhi that he would clean the Yamuna river and drink its water. I challenge him—go drink the Yamuna water now,” Gandhi said.
🔹 Calls Out AAP’s ‘Corporate Government’ – Gandhi accused Kejriwal of abandoning clean politics and running one of Delhi’s biggest corruption scandals through the excise policy scam.
🔹 Compares AAP Rule to Sheila Dikshit’s Legacy – He praised the Congress-led government under Sheila Dikshit, highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, and governance improvements during her tenure.
🔹 Criticizes Kejriwal’s Lavish Lifestyle – Gandhi alleged that while Delhi residents struggle with dirty water, Kejriwal enjoys a luxurious residence worth crores, referring to it as a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ (glass palace).
“You have to drink dirty water, but Kejriwal lives in a Sheesh Mahal. He gives you false statements,” Gandhi said.
With Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, the political rivalry between Congress, AAP, and BJP has intensified.
🔹 AAP has dominated Delhi politics over the last decade, securing 67 out of 70 seats in 2015 and 62 in 2020.
🔹 Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years under Sheila Dikshit, has been unable to win a single seat in the past two elections.
🔹 BJP has maintained a marginal presence, winning 3 seats in 2015 and 8 in 2020.
As the Delhi elections near, the Congress-AAP rivalry is at its peak. Will Gandhi’s aggressive campaign and focus on past governance and corruption allegations help Congress regain lost ground, or will AAP retain its dominance? The answer will unfold as voters head to the polls on February 5, 2025.
