Rajasthan Under Red Alert, Delhi Scorches at 43.8°C: IMD Predicts Relief After June 12

As heatwave conditions intensify across northwest and eastern India, Delhi logs its hottest day of 2025, while Rajasthan reels under 47°C-plus temperatures. IMD forecasts light rainfall and thunderstorms from June 12 onwards.

Extreme heat continues to grip large parts of India with Delhi recording its highest temperature of the season at 43.8°C on Tuesday, and Rajasthan under a red alert as mercury levels soar past 47°C in several districts.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi’s temperature was 3.6°C above normal, with daytime highs expected to reach 45°C on Wednesday. The capital remains under an orange alert till June 12.

Some relief may arrive starting June 12, as the IMD forecasts light showers, gusty winds (30–40 km/h), and isolated thunderstorms.

🔴 Red Alert in Rajasthan

  • Ganganagar has seen temperatures above 47°C for two consecutive days.
  • A red alert is in place till June 12.
  • IMD has issued an orange alert for June 13 and a yellow alert for East Rajasthan.
  • Thunderstorms are likely from June 15–16, offering potential relief.
  • A temperature drop is forecast for June 18–20 in Eastern Rajasthan.

Punjab (Ludhiana):

  • A yellow alert remains in place until Thursday.
  • Ludhiana recorded 44°C on Monday.
  • Temperatures are expected to remain above 40°C until June 16.
  • Possibility of light rain or thunderstorms from midweek.

Himachal Pradesh:

  • Una reported a scorching 44.2°C on Tuesday.
  • Even hill stations like Shimla and Manali are seeing above-normal temperatures.
  • Dry conditions are expected till June 12, with light rainfall likely on June 13–14.

Outlook and Trends

The oppressive heat is attributed to waning western disturbances and delayed monsoon activity. High humidity levels are adding to the discomfort. With northwest India still awaiting monsoon onset, extreme temperatures are expected to continue this week.
