
Red Alert For Heavy Rain In Kerala, Thunderstorm Warnings Across North India, Delhi | Weather Updates
May 30, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for rainfall in Kerala, alongside warnings of thunderstorms and gusty winds across northwest India, as the monsoon advances.

The IMD said heavy rainfall is likely in isolated places across Kerala over the next three to four days. Eight districts, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Kozhikode, are under a red alert. Six districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Thrissur, are under an orange alert. In response, district administrations have declared a holiday for all educational institutions in several districts on May 30. Night-time travel in Idukki’s high-range areas has been banned from 7pm to 6am.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi over the next 4-5 days. The IMD predicts isolated heavy rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir on May 30 and 31. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan until June 2.
Delhi’s Thunderstorm Warning:
Delhi experienced light showers on Thursday evening, offering some relief from the heat. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the national capital for May 30, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and squall. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 29°C on Thursday, 2.4 degrees above normal.
Andhra Pradesh Thunderstorm Alert:
Parts of Andhra Pradesh will see thunderstorms from May 29 to 31, with lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph in isolated areas.
Rajasthan Rain Alert:
Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are forecasted in parts of Rajasthan, including Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Jaipur, on May 30 and 31.

Early Monsoon Impacts Mumbai Health:
The early monsoon has led to a rise in respiratory illnesses and mosquito-borne infections in Mumbai, with hospitals reporting a 20-30% increase in seasonal ailments weeks ahead of the typical June-July surge.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated with local weather bulletins and take necessary precautions.
