Rekha Gupta Condemns Racial Abuse

CM assures strict action after Malviya Nagar incident targeting Northeast women

February 25, 2026: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday strongly condemned the alleged racial abuse and threats against three women from the Northeast in Malviya Nagar. In a video message, Gupta asserted that Delhi belongs to everyone and that the dignity and safety of every citizen is paramount. She said she would personally meet the victims and assured that police are taking strict legal action against those responsible.

The incident surfaced after a video went viral showing a couple allegedly threatening and verbally abusing the women during a dispute over dust from electrical installation work at their rented accommodation. Police have arrested Ruby Jain (35) and her husband Harsh Singh in connection with the case. Authorities confirmed that provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have been invoked based on available evidence.

According to police, the altercation occurred last Friday afternoon after dust from the upper floor reportedly fell into the flat below. The women — two from Arunachal Pradesh and one from Manipur — alleged that the accused used racial slurs, derogatory remarks and threats during the confrontation. While no physical injuries were reported, the complainants stated that the verbal abuse caused significant mental distress.
