Rijiju Slams Opposition Disruptions
Parliamentary Affairs Minister says he meets opposition leaders before every session
January 20, 2026: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday addressed the repeated disruptions in Parliament, blaming the opposition for creating ruckus session after session. He said the government makes sincere efforts to ensure smooth functioning of the House but is often met with coordinated protests that derail proceedings.
Rijiju stated that as part of parliamentary convention, he personally visits the Leader of the Opposition in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha ahead of every session. According to him, these meetings are aimed at seeking cooperation, discussing agendas and resolving concerns in advance so that debates can take place without interruptions.
Despite these efforts, Rijiju said disruptions continue to dominate proceedings, affecting legislative work and wasting valuable parliamentary time. He urged opposition parties to uphold democratic traditions and allow Parliament to function in the interest of the nation, stressing that dialogue, not disruption, is the right path in a democracy.
