Road Accident in Pune, Kills 7: PM Modi Condoles Deaths, Announces ₹2 Lakh Ex-Gratia for Victims’ Families

Seven killed in tragic collision between sedan and pickup truck on Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune; PM calls for swift recovery of injured

June 19, 2025 | Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the tragic road accident that claimed seven lives on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune district, Maharashtra. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the PMO India announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased, and ₹50,000 to each injured person.

“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” the official PMO post read.

The accident occurred on Wednesday and involved a collision between a sedan and a pickup truck, according to Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.

⚠️ Previous Tragedy in Pune

This incident follows another tragedy in the district just days earlier. On June 15, a bridge collapse over the Indrayani River in Pune claimed four lives and left 51 injured, as per District Collector Jitendra Dudi.

Dudi stated, “The incident happened at 3:15 pm. A rescue team of around 250 members responded swiftly and rescued about 38 people.”

The victims included Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, Vihaan Mane, and one unidentified male.
