“Rs 455 Crore Missing from ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ – Where Did the Money Go?” – Kharge Slams Modi Government

Congress President Accuses BJP of Failing Women’s Safety, Misallocating Funds, and Hiding Data

New Delhi, February 28: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has launched a scathing attack on the Modi government, questioning its commitment to women’s safety and empowerment after an RTI revelation allegedly exposed that ₹455 crore has gone missing from the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme.

“RTI has revealed that ₹455 crores have ‘disappeared’ from Modi government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme,” Kharge wrote in a social media post on X.

Kharge criticized the BJP for failing to protect women while using hollow slogans and advertisements to create a false narrative of safety.

“BJP’s slogan ‘Enough of attacks on women’ has been mocking the cries of women who have suffered under their rule. From the rape of a woman in a government bus in Pune to the daughters of Manipur and Hathras, there is no trace of women’s safety under BJP rule,” he said.

Government Hiding Data? RTI Raises Alarming Questions

Kharge further accused the government of concealing crucial data related to the scheme, pointing out that Congress had previously raised concerns about the lack of transparency.

“We recently asked Modi Ji three questions on ‘Beti Bachao,’ one of which was about hiding statistics. The RTI revelations have once again exposed the lies of the Modi Government,” he added.

Kharge’s Three Big Questions to PM Modi

Kharge posed three critical questions to the Prime Minister, demanding accountability:
1️⃣ “Why does the BJP protect criminals instead of protecting daughters?”
2️⃣ “Why have women of Manipur, Hathras, and Unnao been denied justice?”
3️⃣ “Why does Modi Ji promise women’s safety from the Red Fort but fail to act?”

Massive Fund Cuts & Misallocation of Resources

The Congress President also highlighted the misallocation of funds, citing a Parliamentary Standing Committee report that revealed:
🔹 80% of the scheme’s funds were spent on media advertising until 2019
🔹 Budget allocation for the scheme was slashed by 63% between 2018-2023
🔹 Funds were later merged with ‘Sambal’ under ‘Mission Shakti’ to hide financial mismanagement

“When this misallocation was exposed, the Modi government cut the scheme’s funding by 63% and later merged it with ‘Sambal’ to stop providing financial data,” Kharge claimed.

Sharp Reduction in Women and Child Development Budget

Kharge further accused the BJP of reducing the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s budget by half over the last 11 years, stating that the government was manipulating data to cover up its failures.

“Will painting ‘Beti Bachao’ on walls and trucks stop crimes against women? Will it provide jobs, better healthcare, or justice? After 10 years, BJP’s empty slogans mean nothing!” he wrote.

With the Modi government under fire for its handling of women’s safety and empowerment, the Congress has intensified its attack, calling for greater transparency and accountability in the allocation of public funds.
