Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across key sectors.
During the meetings, both sides focused on expanding collaboration in trade, energy, fertilisers, connectivity, and mobility. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of deepening “mutually beneficial cooperation” and appreciated ongoing efforts to implement outcomes from the India-Russia Summit held during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India last year.
Jaishankar noted that discussions also explored new opportunities in areas such as technology, innovation, and critical minerals. In addition to bilateral ties, both leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments, particularly the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Russia’s role as a key energy supplier to India has grown significantly, especially after disruptions in oil shipments from West Asia due to escalating tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. A recent US waiver has further enabled India to continue sourcing energy from Russia.
India is also looking to secure additional fertiliser supplies from Russia amid supply chain disruptions linked to the West Asia crisis.
Manturov’s visit comes shortly after high-level diplomatic consultations between officials of both countries in New Delhi, reflecting continued engagement to strengthen strategic ties.
