Upendra Dwivedi highlights restraint and strategy during Operation Sindoor following Pahalgam attack.
April 10, 2026: Upendra Dwivedi said that Indian forces exercised restraint in choosing the timing of strikes during Operation Sindoor. He explained that while operations could have been carried out at any hour, the forces deliberately avoided striking when people on the other side might be offering Namaz. Emphasising the approach, he said, “sabka malik ek hai,” underlining the intent to act with sensitivity.
Operation Sindoor was launched in May 2025 after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. In response, Indian forces targeted terror launchpads across the Pakistan border and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The situation escalated with drone incursions and shelling from Pakistan, though most threats were intercepted. Both sides eventually agreed to halt military actions on May 10, 2025, following talks between their Directors General of Military Operations.
Speaking at the ‘Ran Samvad’ forum in Bengaluru, Dwivedi described the operation as a “defining case study” in modern warfare. He said it marked progress in joint military operations while highlighting the growing importance of non-kinetic strategies, including countering disinformation, which accounted for nearly 15 per cent of the overall effort.
