Saif Ali Khan sustains six stab wounds during a violent encounter with an intruder, who fled after being locked in a room. Police investigations uncover shocking details about the incident.
January 22, 2025: Actor Saif Ali Khan faced a harrowing ordeal last week when a late-night home invasion in his Bandra residence turned violent. Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, broke into the actor’s home, stabbed him multiple times during a confrontation, and managed to escape despite being locked in a room.
Sequence of Events: A Chilling Intrusion
Police investigations reveal that Shariful scaled the compound wall of Saif Ali Khan’s building late Wednesday night. Exploiting the sleeping guards, he used a back staircase and an air-conditioning duct to enter the actor’s home through a bathroom window. Shariful had removed his shoes and switched off his phone to avoid detection.

At around 2 am, nanny Eliyama Philip spotted the intruder after hearing noises. Initially mistaking him for Kareena Kapoor Khan, she soon realized her error when Shariful emerged from the bathroom armed with a wooden stick and a Hexa blade.

Shariful demanded ₹1 crore in cash, threatening the nanny and wounding her as she tried to shield herself. Hearing her screams, Saif and Kareena rushed to the scene, where the actor confronted the intruder. In the ensuing struggle, Saif suffered six stab wounds, including one on his back that narrowly missed his spinal cord by 2 mm.
The Intruder’s Escape
After the attack, Saif and his household staff managed to lock Shariful in a room. However, the intruder escaped through the air-conditioning duct and fled down the building’s stairs. A face cover left behind in Saif’s younger son Jahangir’s room, where the fight occurred, is now being sent for forensic testing.
Police Track Down the Suspect
Mumbai Police launched a massive manhunt, forming 30 teams and scanning hours of CCTV footage. They tracked Shariful to Thane after identifying him through local intelligence and his mobile number. He was apprehended while hiding in a thicket along a deserted road.
Investigations revealed Shariful’s plans to escape to Bangladesh via Howrah but failed due to financial constraints. The accused, who had illegally entered India months earlier, has been taken into custody.
Saif Ali Khan’s Recovery
The actor spent five days at Lilavati Hospital recovering from his injuries, which included severe wounds to his back, face, and arms. Doctors performed spinal and plastic surgeries to address the damage. Saif has now returned home and is on bed rest, with doctors advising him to avoid visitors to prevent infections.
Saif is expected to record his statement with the police in the coming days.
