“Sanjay Is Raj”: 234 Calls Expose Chilling Honeymoon Murder Plot Orchestrated by Wife and Her Lover

Meghalaya honeymoon murder case sees a dramatic twist as police identify ‘Sanjay Verma’ — the man Sonam called 239 times — as her lover Raj Kushwaha

June 19, 2025: A shocking twist has emerged in the high-profile honeymoon murder case that gripped the nation. Investigators have now revealed that “Sanjay Verma,” the man with whom Sonam Raghuvanshi exchanged over 230 phone calls, is in fact Raj Kushwaha — her lover and co-conspirator in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi.

The couple from Indore had tied the knot on May 11 and set off for their honeymoon to Meghalaya, but within two weeks, Raja was found murdered — his body discovered 20 km from the couple’s last known location in Nongriat on June 2.

📞 239 Calls, One Hidden Identity

Between March 1 and March 25, Sonam and “Sanjay Verma” exchanged 119 calls, with the total tally hitting 239 calls over a 39-day period — both before and after her marriage. Police revealed that “Sanjay” was a fake contact name used by Sonam to mask her ongoing relationship with Raj Kushwaha, who worked as an accountant in her family’s furniture business.

  • Hitmen Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi were later arrested and confessed to the crime.
  • The first payment to the killers was allegedly made by Sonam’s cousin Jitendra Raghuvanshi.
  • Sonam was finally traced to Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 8 and surrendered.
  • She confessed to the murder on June 11, implicating her lover and the hired killers.

🧾 Rental Agreement & Disguised Escape

During her absconding period, Sonam had even signed a rental agreement to hide in Ghazipur, further indicating the premeditated nature of the crime.

Her brother Govind Raghuvanshi, when asked about “Sanjay Verma,” stated:

“I don’t know anything about Sanjay Verma. I also learned today that this name is involved in the case.”

Govind added that the family has severed all ties with Sonam and stands in solidarity with Raja’s grieving family, vowing to support them in seeking justice.

⚖️ Justice Ahead

As the investigation progresses, all six accused — Sonam, Raj, the three hitmen, and cousin Jitendra — are in custody. This heinous betrayal disguised as marital bliss has left a nation stunned, raising alarming questions about trust, deception, and the dark turns of human relationships.
