Leaders react with shock and grief amid reports of Maharashtra Deputy CM’s plane crash

January 28, 2026: Reports claiming the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in Baramati have sent shockwaves across the state, prompting emotional reactions from leaders cutting across party lines. Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut described the development as a “dark day in Maharashtra politics,” highlighting Pawar’s immense influence and long-standing presence in the state’s political landscape.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday, January 28, during a flight to Baramati. As the news spread, political circles across Maharashtra were gripped by grief and disbelief, with several leaders suspending engagements and party workers gathering in solidarity. Reacting to the reports, Sanjay Raut said Maharashtra’s politics would feel incomplete without Ajit Pawar. “Maharashtra politics is nothing without Dada,” he remarked, calling the moment deeply painful for the entire political fraternity.

Recalling Pawar’s connection with grassroots workers, Raut said prayers were being offered for his safe return. “He had an open-hearted personality, every worker loved him. Today, a mountain of sorrow has fallen on Maharashtra,” he said. Authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive official statement, even as the situation continues to be closely monitored.
