Search Operations Intensify in Pahalgam After Terror Attack Leaves Multiple Dead and Injured
Pahalgam (Jammu and Kashmir), April 23:
In the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed multiple lives and left many injured, security forces have launched intensive search operations across the region to hunt down the perpetrators behind Tuesday’s horrific incident.
Visuals from the scenic tourist hub in Anantnag district showed deserted streets and heightened security presence, with checkpoints and barricades set up as forces comb the area. The normally vibrant tourist spot has plunged into fear, with many visitors cutting their trips short amid the tense atmosphere.
Sameer Bhardwaj, a tourist from Delhi, shared his decision to leave early:
“We had plans to visit Pahalgam, but given the current situation, we are heading back to Delhi. What happened here is very wrong—it’s the first time something like this has happened in Pahalgam.”
National Conference leader Shekh Bashir Ahmad strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “conspiracy to disrupt Jammu & Kashmir’s economy.”
“There is no religion that teaches the killing of innocents. This attack is aimed at scaring tourists, damaging the economy, and derailing peace. The people of Jammu and Kashmir must recognize this conspiracy. With the upcoming yatra and tourism season, such acts are meant to incite fear and instability.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia, chaired an emergency briefing with EAM Dr S. Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and top officials immediately upon arrival in Delhi. The meeting focused on the response strategy and reviewed intelligence inputs related to the attack.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday evening, targeted tourists near Baisaran, Pahalgam. Security forces and medical teams responded within minutes, with ambulances rushing the injured to nearby hospitals. Joint teams of the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police have now launched combing operations in the area to apprehend the attackers.
Authorities remain on high alert, with additional reinforcements being deployed. Meanwhile, several civil society groups and political leaders have called for Jammu Bandh in protest against the violence.
As the nation mourns and solidarity pours in from around the world, the people of Jammu & Kashmir have once again taken to the streets in candlelight vigils, determined to stand united against terror.
