South Delhi Triple Murder: Son Confesses to Killing Family Over Property Dispute

December 5, 2024: In a shocking incident in South Delhi’s Neb Sarai, a young man has confessed to murdering his parents and sister in a premeditated act driven by resentment and a dispute over property inheritance. The police solved the case within hours, identifying the alleged perpetrator as Arjun, a 20-year-old second-year Bachelor of Arts student at Delhi University.

The bodies of Rajesh Kumar (51), his wife Komal (46), and their daughter Kavita (23) were discovered in their home on Wednesday morning. Arjun initially reported the crime, claiming he found the bodies upon returning from a morning walk. However, inconsistencies in his account and evidence from CCTV footage led the police to interrogate him, resulting in his confession.

The Crime

The couple was celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary the night before the murders. According to the police, Arjun stabbed his family members in their sleep, reportedly out of anger over feeling humiliated by his father and learning that his parents intended to leave their property to his sister. The murders were carried out with meticulous planning, with Arjun creating an alibi by leaving the house for a morning walk.

Footage from nearby CCTV cameras showed no external intrusion, ruling out the possibility of an outsider’s involvement. Further investigation revealed no signs of forced entry or theft, strengthening the case against Arjun.

Motive and Background

Police officials reported that Arjun harbored resentment toward his family due to years of perceived neglect and regular scoldings from his father, Rajesh, an ex-serviceman. A trained boxer and accomplished athlete, Arjun allegedly felt isolated and undervalued within the family. When he discovered that the family property would be left to his sister, he decided to carry out the murders on a symbolic day – his parents’ anniversary.

Neighborhood Reactions

Neighbors expressed disbelief and sorrow over the gruesome crime. “It’s unimaginable that something so tragic could happen to such a kind and approachable family,” said Anjali, a neighbor. Another resident, Himani, remarked, “Yesterday, they were laughing on the terrace. Today, they’re gone. It’s horrific.”

Political Fallout

The incident sparked a political war of words, with AAP leaders criticizing the Centre, which oversees Delhi Police, for failing to ensure public safety. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal condemned the state of law and order in the city, calling the murders a testament to the administration’s negligence.
