Police halt Ramjilal Suman at Kashi toll plaza, sparking political row in UP
January 10, 2026: In a tense development from Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party MP Ramjilal Suman was stopped by police at the Kashi Toll Plaza while he was on his way to meet the family of a Dalit woman who was brutally attacked and later died from her injuries. The woman had gone to a field with her daughter when local goons allegedly abducted the daughter and assaulted the mother, who succumbed during treatment at a hospital.
Suman was accompanied by SP MLA Atul Pradhan and several party workers when police blocked their convoy, leading to a heated standoff at the toll plaza. The police action triggered sharp reactions from party leaders, who accused the administration of preventing them from expressing solidarity with the victim’s family.
The incident has intensified political debate in the state, once again drawing attention to concerns over law and order, caste-based violence, and the safety of vulnerable communities. Authorities said the case is under investigation, even as public and political pressure continues to mount over the handling of the incident.
