“Celebrate with Joy, Respect Each Other’s Faith” – Rehman’s Message to Hindus and Muslims
Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh), March 14: With Holi and Jumma coinciding, Samajwadi Party MP Zia ur Rehman Barq has called for peace and communal harmony, urging people of all communities to celebrate their festivals with mutual respect and understanding.
Taking to Facebook, Rehman addressed both Hindus and Muslims, advising them to observe their religious traditions while ensuring no group is inconvenienced.
Rehman’s Message for Peace & Mutual Respect
In his post, Rehman urged Hindus to celebrate Holi with enthusiasm while being mindful of mosques. At the same time, he advised Muslims to offer their Friday prayers at nearby mosques and avoid areas where Holi festivities are in full swing, if they prefer.
“I request everyone that the holy month of Ramzan is ongoing, and tomorrow is Friday. It is also the festival of Holi. I request Muslim brothers to offer prayers at the nearest mosque and avoid places where colours are being thrown. I also request Hindu brothers to celebrate their festival with joy and enthusiasm while respecting our mosques and people.”
Rehman made it clear that his appeal was not due to pressure from law enforcement but purely for communal peace, social progress, and harmony.
“I appeal to both communities not to do anything that hurts anyone’s sentiments. I am saying this not out of fear of the police, administration, or government, but for the sake of mutual brotherhood, peace, and the progress of the city, state, and country,” he added.
Rehman expressed hope for a peaceful day, concluding his message with “Ameen.”
Security Measures in Place for Holi Celebrations
Ahead of Holi festivities, the district administration has taken extensive security measures to ensure law and order.
Sambhal Circle Officer (CO) Anuj Chaudhary led a flag march on Thursday with police personnel, reinforcing security arrangements.
Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Pensia and senior police officers also conducted a flag march with paramilitary forces.
1,212 police officers have been deployed across various areas for Holika Dahan, with a centralized control room headed by a gazetted officer set up for real-time monitoring.
CCTV surveillance and plainclothes police officers are stationed in key locations to prevent any disturbances.
Sambhal Superintendent of Police KK Bishnoi assured that mosque committees have proactively taken steps to maintain peace, covering mosques from the outside to avoid any unwanted incidents.
“All mosques have been covered from the outside by their respective committees to ensure peace. They have assured the police and administration that no untoward situation will arise. Additionally, 12-hour-long endurance drones have been deployed, and a total of 64 processions will be taken out on the occasion of Holi,” Bishnoi added.
A Call for Unity Amid Festivities
As Holi and Jumma coincide, leaders, officials, and citizens are coming together to ensure a peaceful and joyous celebration. With strict security measures in place, authorities hope that both festivals of colour and faith can be observed without any disruptions.
