Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), January 29: A ‘stampede-like’ situation occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj after some barriers collapsed, leading to several injuries, according to Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana. The incident took place on the Sangam routes, where over 80 to 100 million devotees have gathered for the ‘Amrit Snan’ on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.

What Happened?

Speaking to reporters, Akanksha Rana confirmed that the barrier collapse led to chaos, but assured that the injured were receiving medical attention and that the situation was under control.

“A stampede-like situation arose after some barriers broke on the Sangam routes. Some people have been injured and are under treatment. It is not a serious situation,” she said.

The rescue operation is underway, and those affected have been taken to Central Hospital for treatment.

PM Modi Reviews Situation

Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to review the situation and called for immediate support measures.
