Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes Yogi Government’s Cabinet Meeting at Maha Kumbh

SP chief calls holding political discussions at Prayagraj’s Kumbh “inappropriate”; Yogi Adityanath leads cabinet to take a holy dip at Sangam.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), January 22: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for convening a cabinet meeting at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, calling it a misuse of a sacred venue for political purposes. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is set to approve several key proposals for the state.

“Kumbh or Prayagraj is not the place where politics or political decisions should be taken. To organize a cabinet meeting at Kumbh is purely political. Many of us have gone for a holy dip but didn’t publicize it,” Yadav remarked while addressing the media.

Yogi Cabinet’s Agenda at Sangam

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya indicated that crucial decisions are expected during the Prayagraj cabinet meeting. The entire Uttar Pradesh cabinet, comprising 54 ministers, has been invited to deliberate on developmental policies and schemes for the state.

“Many important decisions will be taken in the cabinet meeting today. Afterward, all cabinet members, including CM Yogi Adityanath, will take a holy dip at Sangam,” Maurya stated.

This marks the second instance of CM Yogi conducting a cabinet meeting at the Triveni Sangam. In 2019, during the Kumbh Mela, he led his cabinet for a ceremonial dip along with saints and Akhada Parishad leaders.

Significance of Maha Kumbh 2025

The ongoing Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, is one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. Key bathing dates remaining include:

  • January 29: Mauni Amavasya (Second Shahi Snan)
  • February 3: Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan)
  • February 12: Maghi Purnima
  • February 26: Maha Shivaratri

To ensure the safety of millions of pilgrims, over 10,000 personnel, including local police and paramilitary forces, have been deployed. Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has stationed a water ambulance at Sangam for emergencies.

The Maha Kumbh will conclude on February 26, with an estimated turnout of millions of devotees from across the globe.
