
BSF apprehends 744 people, including 112 Rohingyas, in 2023 at Tripura border
New Delhi [India]: The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended 744 people in 2023 for trying to illegally enter India from Bangladesh through the International Border in Tripura.
The people who were apprehended included 112 Rohingya Illegal Migrants (RIMs), 337 Bangladeshi nationals and 295 Indians in different operations.
A senior BSF officer said that in Tripura, over the years, BSF Tripura Frontier has performed multifarious responsibilities in fighting the insurgency, maintaining the border’s sanctity and preventing all kinds of trans-border crimes while working under adverse climatic conditions in remote and inhospitable terrain and highly malaria-infested zones in most parts of its operational areas.
During the year 2023, the BSF troops of the Tripura Frontier have maintained extremely high levels of surveillance and alertness. As a result, BSF has successfully rescued 1,980 Cattle heads and seized contraband items like 2,02,535 Bottles of Phensedyl, 16,750 kgs of Ganja, 98,003 Yaba tablets, four kg Gold, 289.78 gms Silver, 1185.465 grams Brown Sugar, arms and ammunition, Bangladeshi Currency worth1,07,17,980 Taka and miscellaneous items worth Rs 41 cr and also apprehended 112 Rohingya Illegal Migrants (RIMs), 337 Bangladeshi nationals and 295 Indian in different operations.
In close coordination with state and central agencies, 20,12,400 (approximately) Ganja saplings, being grown illegally on 1,007 acres in the state of Tripura, were destroyed by uprooting or burning in joint operations.
BSF, being a border guarding force, also looks after the populace residing in bordering areas and for their well-being conducts various civic action programs, which include free medical camps, cataract operations, skill development training, sports tournaments and cultural activities.
The IsG BSF-Region Commanders BGB level Border Coordination Conference was held at Chattogram in Bangladesh in September 2023. During the conference, bilateral issues were discussed for better coordination between the Border Guarding Forces for the well-being of the population residing in the border area, thereby paving the way for maintaining ties between two friendly nations.
The Border Security Force, Tripura Frontier, which has been devotedly protecting Tripura’s international borders, would continue to work to safeguard the state’s border with Bangladesh by keeping in frequent contact and coordination with all key stakeholders.
