Delhi Weather Offices X Account Hacked, Probe Underway
June 22, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that its Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC), New Delhi, X account was hacked on Saturday evening, resulting in the posting of inappropriate content.
The incident came to light following reports on social media Saturday evening. The IMD swiftly deleted the offending posts and launched an internal investigation. In an official statement issued Sunday, the department stated, “Corrective actions [were] taken to remove those posts. Matter is being further investigated.”
This is not the first time the IMD has fallen victim to cyber intrusion. The agency’s primary X/Twitter handle was hacked in April 2022, leading to a flood of spam posts, which were later restored following swift action.
Following the earlier breach, the IMD implemented enhanced safeguards including firewall integration and password-protected access to core systems—efforts aimed at strengthening digital resilience amid ongoing threats.
